Our Glossary of Colour Words in Maori

So we found out about the Maori words in the book and what they mean.
Now we know that the kuia means old woman or a grandmother.  We thought it might mean weaver because the grandma does a lot of weaving.
In Tui we have been learning the words for colours in Maori, so we thought it would be good to make a glossary of colour words.  (That's what you can see in the photo.)
We have a routine in our class.  The special person lets the children go out at morning tea and lunchtime.  They say, "Me haere koe kei te mau...." (This means, "You may go if you're wearing...") Then they choose a colour that some children are wearing.  If you're wearing that colour, you can go.

  1. That is so cool Tui and I love that you are learning new words in te reo! My favourite colours are mawhero and kakariki. I love your weaving as well and cannot wait to see how it goes for you this week! I wonder if you could weave a sleeping mat like the kuia made for her mokopuna? How big would it need to be? I think it would take a long time to make one of those ;)
    Have fun :)

  2. You have made an awesome glossary. Macaela likes the way it connects to the story because the kuia is maori. Azaleigha likes how you have learnt about words you were not sure about. Mac likes how the kuia and the spider both make cool things.
    It is cool!
